What type of glass is used in external glass doors?

Our Bona Vista aluminium al fresco doors use 6.38mm clear laminated glass, while our Panoramic timber-framed external glass doors use our exclusive SafeGlass. SafeGlass is heat treated to be 500% stronger than normal glass, and it will crumble rather than shatter if broken with extreme force. Optional double glazing is also available, for maximum insulation. Our solid timber and composite external door ranges offer a wide selection of clear, translucent, frosted or decorative glazing options, including Doors Plus InsulSafe glass. InsulSafe incorporates a decorative zinc, lead or brass panel within a sealed double glazed unit.

Are external glass doors better than solid doors for insulation?

Both glass doors and solid doors have strong insulation qualities. You can enhance the insulation performance of glass doors by choosing clear double glazing, Insulsafe glass, or the Harmony Venetian range that uses double glazed SafeGlass. The insulation qualities of your doors will also be significantly affected by the condition of the framework, and you can close up any gaps around the door using a seal or a weather strip.

We have a range of solid timber and composite external glass doors that can be made to custom sizes up to 2400x1200 mm, and our wide selection of solid timber products can also be trimmed up to 20 mm on each edge and installed into the existing framework.

How long does an external glass door take to install?

This will depend on your space and requirements. Factors such as the size and number of doors will affect the installation time, as well as the condition of your existing framework. The doors may need to be trimmed to fit, or we may need to install a new framework along with the door itself. Our expert fitters are experienced and efficient, and will be happy to answer any questions as they go along.
